Angel Dust (CD)
Faith No More
Amoeba Review

Never ones to miss an opportunity to reinvent and entertain, Faith No More do far more than rehash the groundbreaking funk-metal that got them famous upon the release of 1992’s, Angel Dust. Truly a clever (and even downright funny) album, the album is infused with vocalist Mike Patton’s ability to shift styles like a stand-up comic doing impressions, a gift that sets Faith No More apart from similar acts of the time that were overly self-serious. Patton goes completely aggro on “Caffeine,” an apt return to the band’s metal roots, but by “Smaller and Smaller” the smoother harmonies begin to creep back in as if by spiritual default. And when “A Small Victory” begins to spin, the schizoid charm becomes full bloom as Patton’s vocals jump from growling to soft rock-style harmonies.
