Black Sunday Live At The Royal Albert Hall (CD)

Cypress Hill

Cypress Hill and The London Symphony Orchestra team up for the incredible Black Sunday Live at the Royal Albert Hall . In summer 2024, the rap legends and the world-renowned orchestra performed a reinterpretation of Cypress Hill's Black Sunday album along with fan favorites from the group's catalog. The orchestral arrangements took inspiration from DJ Muggs' original recordings...and the results were cinematic, affecting, and captivating. You've never heard Cypress Hill like this. Get ready for epic beauty and stunning musical finesse.

Shinbangumi (CD)

Ginger Root

This funky, joyful, eclectic album will transform even the sourest mood. On his debut for Ghostly, Shinbangumi , SoCal's own Ginger Root develops a vivid and electrifying musical palette, using elements of disco, Japanese City Pop, funk, synthpop, and alt-R&B. With songs this upbeat, kaleidoscopic, lush, and entrancing, you'll want to get lost in Ginger Root's sonic dreamworld. Get ready to be swept off your feet because Shinbangumi is one of the year's best albums.

No Fear Of Time (LP)

Black Star

This one was worth the wait. As the duo Black Star, No Fear of Time was Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli's first release in two and a half decades. Originally released in 2022 as a digital only record, this excellent, Madlib-produced album is now available to hold in your hip-hop-loving hands. As you'd expect, the album is smart and timely, with standout beats that sometimes veer into the experimental. No Fear of Time is a consuming listen that'll keep you hitting rewind; there's something new to discover (or rediscover) on every track of this fantastic album.

Woodland (CD)

Gillian Welch

Gillian Welch and David Rawlings have created an absolute stunner of an album with Woodland . This is some of the most gripping, evocative, and moving Americana in years. Of course, Welch and Rawlings are eminently gifted artists, but perhaps some of the album's power is due to its source of inspiration. Named after the duo's Woodland Sound Studios in Nashville, TN where it was recorded, the album is imbued with the deep love, devastation, hope, and renewal that mirrors their experience of rebuilding the studio after it was destroyed in a tornado four years ago. Woodland the album holds the beauty and terror of existence in its tender hands, a record of resilience, belief, and emotional connection in the midst of trying times.

Lotus [Pinwheel Splatter Vinyl] (LP)

Little Simz

Little Simz is one of the freshest voices coming out of UK rap. Lotus is jam-packed with earworms, from the propulsive and brooding "Flood" to the grime-influenced, rather goofy "Young." It's a smart, entertaining, occasionally intense, and thoroughly enjoyable album with guest appearances from Sampha, Moonchild Sanelly, Lydia Kitto, Moses Sumney, Miraa May, Yukimi Nagano, Wretch 32, Cashh, Michael Kiwanuka, Yussef Dayes, and Obongjayar. An album informed by experimentation, evolution, and transformation, Lotus is a must hear.

Glossolalia (CD)

Dale Crover

Dale Crover, the longtime drum basher for metal icons The Melvins, is raising his artistic sails and flexing his creativity on his latest solo album, Glossolalia . Normally the hardest-hitting drummer in rock since Bonham, Crover downshifts and has crafted a mellower, free-spirited indie rock album. Joining him on this effort are guests such as Ty Segall, Soundgarden's Kim Thayil, and the legendary Tom Waits on the title track.

Companion (BLU)

Drew Hancock

Romance, horror, and technology collide in this dark comedy/sci-fi thriller when Josh (Jack Quaid) brings his "emotional support robot" girlfriend Iris (Sophie Thatcher) on a weekend getaway to the lake house of his well-off acquaintance Sergey (Rupert Friend). It becomes apparent that not all is as it seems with Sergey, or with the retreat itself, or with Iris once she goes haywire. Also stars Harvey Guillen, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, and Jaboukie Young-White.

Paradise Pop. 10 [Yellow Vinyl] (LP)

Christian Lee Hutson

The third album from indie folk singer/songwriter Christian Lee Hutson was inspired by his move from L.A. to NYC, and the welcome new perspective he gained. Featuring collaborations with artists like Phoebe Bridgers (“Flamingos”) - who also produced the record - and Maya Hawke (“Carousel Horses”), Paradise Pop. 10 offers gentle introspection and a relatable wistfulness. Highlights include the shimmering ballad “After Hours” and the lively closing track “Beauty School,” featuring Katy Kirby.

Open Up Your Senses (CD)

Tyreek McDole

Tyreek McDole puts a contemporary spin on classic jazz with his soulful, vibrant debut, Open Up Your Senses . McDole's baritone won the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition two years ago; in the contest's twelve year history, he's one of only two male vocalists to do so. Listen and you'll understand why. The album swings, bringing a modern sensibility to jazz tradition with interpretations of legendary tracks by Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong, plus a hypnotic take on the traditional Haitian chant “Wongolo Wale." A mood-setting, invigorating album by a name to watch.

Billboard Heart [Pink Vinyl] (LP)

Deep Sea Diver

Deep Sea Diver's Billboard Heart is eclectic and electrifying, the kind of album that'll make you want to pick up a guitar yourself. The title track opens the record with a dreamy, undersea vibe before morphing into a full-throated, emotionally gripping indie rocker. "What Do I Know" starts with brittle beats, crunchy guitars and shoegaze-y vocals taking over to create a driving, epic atmosphere. "Shovel" is a post-punk-influenced dose of sinister swagger. These are songs that go straight to your heart, a gut-punching, glorious testament to the power of music.

Paid In Memories (LP)

Jessie Reyez

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez’s third album showcases her fearless lyricism and emotive performances. Reyez touches on themes of selfless love, power, and confidence, while delivering soulful verses that transcend genre. Includes features from Ari Lennox, Big Sean, Lil Wayne, and more.

Blue Sky Sundays (CD)

JD Clayton

Throwback country-rocker JD Clayton follows up his acclaimed 2023 debut with new album, Blue Sky Sundays . The album revels in laidback melodies and '70s soaked vibes, perhaps especially on opening track "Let You Down," which swings in with harmonica and gentle piano chords before digging into a soulful rhythm. "Arkansas Kid" is a bluesy boot-stomper while "Dirt Roads of Red" feels like a loping walk through the countryside, accompanied by clever lyrics about heaven and its suitability for a down-home countryman. At the center of the album rests a funky, upbeat cover of Tracy Chapman's "Give Me One Reason."
