In early September 2005 , Amoeba Music started AMOEBA AUCTIONS, an on-going weekly auction to help raise money for the Gulf Coast Relief Efforts. Every Saturday afternoon at 4pm, our Hollywood store auctions items which include memorabilia, collectables, promotional items, concert tickets, plus much, much more. To help increase funds, Amoeba is matching all individual donations and accepted bids up to $1,000.
Auctions have included everything from Slayer
promotional underwear and Michael Jackson puffy stickers (with winning bids of $5 - $20) to Brian Wilson box seats for 4 at the Hollywood Bowl which went for $550 and a pair of tickets to the sold-out Supergrass show for $200. And with Amoeba matching all the bids, each items brings in in double the money!
On the celebrity fun tip, Kelly Clarkson was shopping at Amoeba during the first auction and entered a furious bidding war to eventually win a promotional Morrissey flag – for $300 (which she quietly gave back to the store to give to a bigger Morrissey fan).
Special guest celebrity auctioneers have included Bob Odenkirk of MR.SHOW Fame, and Scott “Top Ten” Kempner of THE DICTATORS.
Amoeba Auctions accepts cash, credit cards and
checks made out directly to any one of the organizations we support. So far, between the generous in-store donations from our customers and staff and winning bids from the Saturday auctions we have raised over $150,000 for various organizations.
