Volcano (CD)
Volcano
Amoeba Review
Once upon a time (2003), there was Volcano, a supergroup consisting of Curt Kirkwood (Meat Puppets), Bud Gaugh and Miguel Happoldt (Sublime), and Jon Poutney (The Ziggens). Remastered by Bob Weston in 2024, their only studio album is now out on vinyl. Volcano sounds almost exactly like you'd expect it to: like a grungy, Meat Puppets post-punk sound with a bit of an influence from The Specials and The Selecter. Which isn't to say that this is an album without surprises. No! Jam-packed with rock 'n' roll grit, the occasional rocksteady rhythm, and scuzzed out post-punk sleaze, Volcano is innovative and explosive. A real treat.
