Cheech Marin is an actor, director, writer, and music lover who is best known as half of the duo Cheech and Chong. Born in Los Angeles, Marin moved to Vancouver at the end of college where he met Tommy Chong. They eventually moved back to LA working as a comedy team that regularly incorporated music into their routines. They released nine albums together between 1972 - 1985, winning a Grammy for Best Comedy Recording for Los Cochinos (Warner Bros, 1973). They also starred in eight films together, including 1978's Up In Smoke.
Marin has been in more than 20 feature films in addition to his collaborations with Chong, including Born in East LA, Tin Cup, and Desperado, and he has lent his voice to numerous animated films such as The Lion King and Cars. He has also appeared on television in Nash Bridges, Judging Amy, and Grey's Anatomy, among others. In 2005, Marin directed a Broadway show called Latinologues, a collection of monologues about the Latino experience in the US. Marin is also deeply interested in art and has gathered an extensive collection of Chicano fine art which he has exhibited at museums around the country.
