Jason Schwartzman is an American actor and musician. He began acting at age 17 with a starring role in Wes Anderson's 1998 film, Rushmore. Also in 1998, Schwartzman's band, Phantom Planet, released their debut album, Phantom Planet Is Missing (Geffen). Phantom Planet scored a hit with the song "California" which became the theme song for The OC in 2003. In 2004, Schwartzman left Phantom Planet to pursue his acting career which would go on to include I Heart Huckabees, Shopgirl, Marie Antoinette, The Darjeeling Limited, and most recently, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. He is currently featured in the HBO series, Bored to Death.
Shwartzman has continued to pursue his love for music under the name Coconut Records, created in 2007. As Coconut Records, Schwartzman has released two albums: Nighttiming (Young Baby, 2007) and Davy (Young Baby, 2009). He also composed the theme song for Bored To Death and has written songs for the films Funny People and Slackers, as well as the TV show Smallville.
