Geese's 3D Country feels like a blast from the past, a 1970s-style rock 'n' roll album that's lushly constructed, unpredictable, and soulful. The Brooklyn band combines Stones-esque rock swagger with elements of gospel, funk, country, glam, and psychedelia. Oh yes, the psychedelia! Perhaps not surprisingly for an album based around the concept of a traditional, stoic, Golden-Age-of-the-Westerns cowboy who goes on a drug trip and has his whole psychology rearranged into an infinitely groovier, freer way of being, 3D Country isn't afraid to dive deep into the pool of weirdness. That's what makes this album so exciting: you're not gonna hear anything quite this wild and wonderful this year. Buy the ticket (aka album), take the ride.
