Avey Tare’s signature sound feels softer, more intimate on 7s. The melodies get woozy, shimmering, and shifting like sunlight through the trees on a beautiful summer day. The backstory of the album is this: Avey Tare wrote the home demos that would become 7s back in 2020 and in 2021 started journeying to his friend Adam McDaniel’s Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville, NC to add further texture to the barebones of his initial tracks. Maybe that’s why these songs sound so sparkling and so tender. This is the sound of rebirth, of connections between loved ones, of noticing the small beauties of everyday life. 7s is one of those albums that envelops you in its sound, its concept, and its atmosphere.
