A Modern Life (CD)
Lo Moon
Amoeba Review
A Modern Life, the second album from Los Angeles quartet Lo Moon, features lushly shimmering ballads that swell into moments of jangle pop and artful rock, guided by singer Matt Lowell's smooth voice. The overall mood is melancholy but the dynamics within the songs are sometimes dramatic: for example, "Raincoats" lets the first half coast along on layers of vocal effects before it bursts into upbeat, stirring pop-rock with distorted guitar and light-touch electronics. It's a strong sophomore effort from this earnest and dreamy band.
