Acoustic Hymns, Vol. 1 [180 Gram Vinyl] (LP)
Richard Ashcroft
Amoeba Review
Acoustic Hymns, Vol. 1 is a collection of newly-recorded acoustic versions of both solo Richard Ashcroft tracks and Verve-era material. The project was conceived as a post-lockdown celebration of community and musical career, with Ashcroft handling production duties alongside frequent collaborator Chris Potter (The Verve, Rolling Stones, Blur) and his regular live band playing with some talented guests. Album highlights include a grittier, contemporary version of “Bittersweet Symphony” and a duet with Liam Gallagher on “C’Mon People (We’re Making It Now).” But there’s a lot more to discover on this excellent revisit of classic Ashcroft works. Press play and get ready to hear some old favorites in a thoughtful new light.
