Amoeba Review
09/07/2020
Indie rock legends return after ten long years, and two decades since the classic lineup featured on their 1993 magnum opus Last Splash recorded together. The wait is over. It’s almost uncanny how much All Nerve channels that era, as if these songs had been preserved in amber, now freshly thawed out. All the signifiers are there: the booming rhythm section, guitars alternating between chugging power chords cloaked in grungy distortion and twangy, surf-rock reverb, and of course, Kim and Kelley Deal’s unmistakable and inimitable harmonies; they sound like a sisters’ folk act gone hoarse from shouting lullabies over the din of smoky dive bars. One of the most original rock bands to ever grace the big stage are back to doing what they do best.
