Angeltape [Obsidian Color Vinyl] (LP)
Drahla
Amoeba Review
Drahla's Angeltape is bristling, fevered, and totally unpredictable. "Default Parody" features Luciel Brown's airy, icy vocals over driving art-rock rhythms and riffs. "Second Rhythm" starts with what feels like a left-of-center pop vocal before punishing post-punk percussion kicks in, wiry guitars enter, and frenzied horns add to the sense of tightly controlled emotional chaos. "Grief in Fantasia" blends no-wave, punk, and post-punk in a track that moves between the intensity of loss and trauma and the strange lightness of kindness and healing. Angeltape is a thoroughly intriguing mix of emotions, genres, and sonic textures.
