Appaloosa Bones [Brown Vinyl] (LP)
Gregory Alan Isakov
Amoeba Review
Appaloosa Bones is the lyrical and lovely new album from vegetable farmer and Grammy-nominated indie folk singer Gregory Alan Isakov. The original plan for the album was a more bare bones, raw approach to songwriting: that sense of vulnerability and authenticity comes through in the emotions the album conjures up, even as the arrangements themselves are a bit more lush and layered than perhaps intended at the outset. But that's a win for listeners. Richly textured with keening strings, rootsy pluckings, and sonorous vocals, these are the types of songs that catch on to something deep inside. Lonesome, romantic, and filled with grace, this is an album with real staying power.
