Arrows (CD)
Red Fang
Amoeba Review
Arrows is a welcome return for Red Fang. It’s crushing, it’s moody, it’s pure heavy metal rock ’n’ roll. Arrows’ strength is in its seeming simplicity: solid riffs, killer vocals, and driving melodies. Beneath it all there’s an underlying, understated humor—I mean, there’s a track called “Fonzi Scheme,” an unholy union between Happy Days’ too-cool (and too old) for school leather jacket-sporting Fonzi and the old cash-depleting, life-destroying criminal classic, the Ponzi Scheme. There are also unexpected flourishes of sound, like the inclusion of the Portland Cello Project on said track. With their predilection for sly humor and goofy concepts, hopefully Red Fang will forgive us for saying that Arrows is a bulls-eye.
