No Age guitarist Randy Randall does a sonic about-face on his Sound Field Volume One, a collection of ambient soundscapes inspired by Southern California life. More specifically, the album draws influence from the mundanity and ubiquitousness of the freeway. Released in collaboration with Los Angeles experimental art collective Arthur King and the Dangerbird label, the project shies away from our cultural preoccupation with reaching a destination, focusing instead on how we get to where we’re going. Cerebral, fascinating, and lovely, all in equal measure, journey from the heart of the desert to the edge of the ocean with Randall.
