Scottish duo Arab Strap have released their first new studio album since 2005: As Days Get Dark. Fans who have missed their spare, brooding sound will rejoice at the return of Aidan Moffat’s grim recitations, occasionally accompanied by livelier beats than before. “Here Comes Comus!” is downright rockin’ for Arab Strap, and it’s also quite a good song -- dark synth pop-meets-goth rock, perhaps. Moffat still conjures sad or sordid (or sometimes darkly comic) images in a heavy brogue. A song like “Kebabylon,” for example, is the monologue of a street sweeper bitterly cleaning up the garbage from late-night revelers.
