Neil Young's Before and After is an immersive, achingly beautiful experience. The album consists of thirteen reinterpreted songs spanning over five decades of Young's career, served up as single, uninterrupted track Young has called “a music montage with no beginnings or endings.” The oldest cuts include a handful of '60s era Buffalo Springfield songs, the newest is 2021's "Don't Forget About Love." One track, 'If You’ve Got Love," has never previously been released on an album. Before and After presents a fascinating history of Young's oeuvre: it's an impressive collection, as well as an opportunity to get lost in the music.
