Amoeba Review
08/28/2020
Zombi mastermind Steve Moore’s beautiful Beloved Exile is his first non-soundtrack album in five years. In weaving this cosmic, captivating dream of a record, Moore enlisted luminaries like Mary Lattimore (harp), Tunisian singer-songwriter Emel Mathlouthi (vocals), and Jeff Gretz (percussion). John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats named each track and gave the album its title. Moore lists sonic inspiration from vintage synths libraries, New Age, and horror flicks; taken together, his influences have yielded an otherworldly, Dead Can Dance-esque sonic meditation that’s sure to haunt the mind and the heart.
