Bewitched (LP)
Laufey
Amoeba Review
Ever wished you lived in the romantic, technicolor days of the '50s and '60s? Laufey's Bewitched is for you. The Icelandic singer-songwriter's sophomore album is about love in all its forms, from friendship to head-over-heels. These jazz pop songs feel contemporary and fresh while nodding heavily to styles of the past: "From the Start" has a tropicalia influence, the title track calls to mind soundtrack selections from the golden age of Hollywood, and "Dreamer" is one of those tracks that sounds transported directly from a 1960s movie heroine's pastel. lovelorn boudoir. Bewitched is pure loveliness, with an appeal that should range far beyond fans of vocal jazz. If you want a mood album that'll transport you to a vivid, gorgeous mid-century dreamland, check this one out.
