Bird Machine (CD)
Sparklehorse
Amoeba Review
Bird Machine, the posthumous album from Sparklehorse, is a treasure. The songs are vulnerable, poignant, and gorgeous, at times emotionally devastating and at others consolatory. Recorded by Steve Albini prior to frontman Mark Linkous' death, the songs were finished by his brother Matt, who kept them close to their original spirit. It's a release that's at once haunting and gentle, dreamy and almost despairing. But the overall experience of listening to Bird Machine is one of celebration: of Linkous' humanity, artistry, and connection with thousands of hearts who found a respite in his work.
