Bouquet (CD)

Gwen Stefani

On her first new album since 2017's You Make It Feel Like Christmas , Gwen Stefani revels in assessable pop-rock melodies with a few hints of country. Her characteristically personal lyrics contrast the pain of her past with her current happy marriage, delivered in her still lovely vocals. “Somebody Else’s” is an infectious, cathartic number and “Pretty” is a sweet, relatable ballad. Another strong track is the upbeat and romantic “Late To Bloom.”

Charlotte Day Wilson

Charlotte Day Wilson's Cyan Blue is a hazy, dreamy just left-of-center R&B album. The songs are intimate and inviting, the sound of falling in love. Wilson's Sade-like silked vocals float in and around the standup bass and plaintive piano at the heart of the tracks; the effect is hypnotizing and enthralling. Influences ranging from jazz to neo-soul are woven together to create an ethereal, seductive atmosphere. Charlotte Day Wilson is a true R&B innovator and Cyan Blue is a must-hear.

Obsession [Deluxe Edition] (CD)

UFO’s 1978 classic album Obsession has received a deluxe edition 2CD reissue. The set includes a new remaster of the album from the original tapes, plus a new mix by Brian Kehew of “Live at The Agora Ballroom, Cleveland” from the Strangers In The Night  live album, as well as new liner notes with interviews with Phil Mogg, Andy Parker and Michael Schenker.

Nobody Loves You More (CD)

Kim Deal

It may seem hard to believe, but Nobody Loves You More is technically Kim Deal's debut solo album. And what a statement this lovely album is! The tracks are lushly orchestrated, filled with stylistic surprises, and anchored in pure rock 'n' roll energy. Deal's gorgeous compositions feature a top-notch cast of collaborators, including members of the Breeders (Mando Lopez, Kelley Deal, Jim Macpherson, Britt Walford) pals like Jack Lawrence (The Greenhorns) and Fay Milton and Ayse Hassan (Savages), and Steve Albini on the final track. This beautiful, affecting, easy-to-love album will stay in heavy rotation.

Mahashmashana (CD)

Father John Misty

On his tongue-twister of a new album (Mahashmashana means "great cremation ground" in ancient Sanskrit), Josh Tillman - more popularly known as Father John Misty – deftly threads his acerbic wit into his trademark radiant vocals. The mood shifts frequently on songs like “Screamland,” which fluctuates from intensely personal and intimate to a soaring, epic chorus, and on “She Cleans Up,” Father John has recruited the raucous, red-hot Swedish punks Viagra Boys. You don’t need to be a Bronze Age scholar to appreciate the beauty of Mahashmashana .

Tears For Fears

Tears for Fears are back with both new and live music on Songs for a Nervous Planet . The English duo kick off the album with 4 brand new studio tracks. The rest of the double album is a live recording of a career-spanning set recorded in Franklin, TN on their 2023 Tipping Point Tour. Featuring both newer numbers and smash hits like "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" and "Shout," this is a must-have for any Tears For Fears fan.

No Fear Of Time (CD)

Black Star

This one was worth the wait. As the duo Black Star, No Fear of Time was Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli's first release in two and a half decades. Originally released in 2022 as a digital only record, this excellent, Madlib-produced album is now available to hold in your hip-hop-loving hands. As you'd expect, the album is smart and timely, with standout beats that sometimes veer into the experimental. No Fear of Time is a consuming listen that'll keep you hitting rewind; there's something new to discover (or rediscover) on every track of this fantastic album.

Aghori Mhori Mei [w/Exclusive Print] (LP)

The Smashing Pumpkins

If you've been jonesing for a physical version of the newest album from The Smashing Pumpkins, wait no longer. Aghori Mhori Mei was originally released digitally in August and frankly, the emotional and sonic intensity of this album begs for the experience of opening the record, sliding it onto your player, and immersing yourself in the immensity of the sound. The Pumpkins' move towards prog-influenced metal, with swelling strings and moments of vulnerability from Billy Corgan, hits the sweet spot. This is a powerful, punishing, and devastatingly beautiful record.

MG Ultra (CD)

Machine Girl

Machine Girl harnesses chaos and complexity into their brutal latest, MG Ultra . The group revels in heaviness and ferocity, somehow managing to effortlessly fuse the most intense musical genres imaginable — metal, drum 'n' bass, gabber, hardcore, noise — into a full-on audio assault. The wildest part of this equation is that despite all the underlying rage, anguish, and abandon inherent to these sounds, the album is straight up FUN. (If you're into mosh pits, eardrum shattering electronics, and left-of-the-dial weirdness, that is.) Refreshing, dark, and compelling, MG Ultra has to be heard.

Nosferatu [Score] [Oxblood Vinyl] (LP)

Robin Carolan

Robin Carolan's score for Nosferatu is haunting and remarkable. Written to accompany Robert Eggers' moody, monstrous 19th century-set tale, the compositions were inspired by a range of influences, including Bartok, Coil, lesser known Hammer horror films, and a Ukrainian film called The Eve of Ivan Kupalo . These mood-setting songs range from the sweeping and sublime to the doom-laden and dread-inducing. Young British classical artist Daniel Pioro serves as the orchestra leader and first chair of a group of musicians consisting of sixty string players, a full choir, ancient horns and woodwinds, a harp player and two percussionists. The Nosferatu soundtrack is a masterpiece.

Memoir Of A Sparklemuffin [Pearl Vinyl] (LP)

Suki Waterhouse

Suki Waterhouse's Memoir of a Sparklemuffin is a dream of an album. The multi-talented Waterhouse (as referenced in the song title "Model, Actress, Whatever") proves once again that she is a musical force to be reckoned with on this pastel-hued garage rock collection informed by elements of post-punk, '60s rock 'n' roll, and moody indie pop. Recorded in the last two months of her pregnancy, Waterhouse named the album after a particularly colorful spider (with a particularly ridiculous moniker) that she saw as a gritty, fabulous, and amusing metaphor for metamorphosis. It'll all make sense once you take a listen — these songs are sparkling and vivacious, with a relatable, droll world view.

Burnout (CD)

BoyWithUke

BoyWithUke's latest album is also planned as his last under the moniker. Burnout finds strength in vulnerability, as Charley Yang gets introspective and open on these genre-hopping, enjoyable songs. "Can You Feel It?" opens with plaintive keys, building a poignant, delicate mood before the percussion kicks in and the anxiety ramps up. "Ghost" is wistful and bittersweet, a love letter to a relationship gone by. Burnout is a beautiful, dynamic album with arrangements that surprise and delight and lyrics that feel oh-so-relatable.
