Bronco (LP)
Orville Peck
Amoeba Review
For all the theatricality, mystery, and excellent costuming, Orville Peck’s Bronco is, at its heart, just a damn good country album. Peck’s love for the genre is true blue, apparent in the lush flourishes of sound, the wailing guitars, the lovesick, Roy Orbison-inflected vocals. The queer cowboy takes listeners on an epic journey through bittersweet romance into witty, lighter moments of reprieve, the music crescendoing from lonely guitars to heart-swelling overtures. If anyone knew who Peck actually, verifiably was, you might just be able to visualize his face next to those country greats whose voices haunt our consciousness and sing our most vaunted songs. Bronco is that good.
