Built To Spill Caustic Resin (CD)
Built To Spill , Caustic Resin
Amoeba Review

There couldn’t be a more logical collaboration than these two groups coming together for this truly epic four-track EP. Caustic Resin, the awe-inspiring sludge rock unit from Boise, and Built To Spill, with their brand of melodic guitar-centered rock, deliver one of the finest batches of guitar-heavy ear candy. The EP opens with the brilliant nine-minute jam, “When Not Being Stupid Is Not Enough,” which marks the direction Built To Spill would take on their next release, Perfect From Now On. “One Thing” is a fierce heavy number that clearly benefits from the skill of Caustic Resin’s guitarist Brett Netson. There is no holding back on this one, and it even features some screaming vocals from Built To Spill front man Doug Martsch. The EP closes with a cover of Kicking Giant’s “She’s Real,” which is the only thing that sounds like the sweet pop of Built To Spill. A fresh approach for both of these bands, it is clear the this collaboration was time well spent and is an absolute delight for fans.
