Can We Please Have Fun (CD)
Kings Of Leon
Amoeba Review
Kings Of Leon have delivered one of the best albums in their career with Can We Please Have Fun. The band has toned down the stadium rock bombast and epic catchiness of their earlier work for this album — which isn't to say these tracks aren't total earworms. They're just operating in slightly different territory. "Mustang" starts with an unexpected sparseness, angular and post-punk, before working its way up to a full-on, infectious chorus. "Split Screen" feels like the comedown after a wild night out or a romance gone bad. "Nothing to Do" opens with an unrelenting, anxiety-inducing riff before a deceptively gentle and romantic chorus alleviates some of the pressure. In some ways, Kings of Leon rock harder than ever before with these urgent new songs.
