Cellophane Memories (CD)
David Lynch , Chrystabell
Amoeba Review
Hazy, moody, mysterious, and magical, the new outing from David Lynch & Chrystabell fits well into the cult fave director's creative universe. Cellophane Memories feels like a dream, with sounds and visions half-heard and half-glimpsed, a shifting, shimmering landscape that can easily move from delight to dread. Chystabell's otherworldly voice floats in and out of Lynch's evocative soundscapes, with the late, great Angelo Badalamenti contributing to two tracks. The songs transport listeners to towering, dark forests to lonesome bedrooms to hypnotic highways via the menacing twang, ethereal ambiance, and spectral synths of the melodies. An album that's every bit as brooding and beautiful as you'd expect.
