Portugal. The Man just get better and better. Their latest, Chris Black Changed My Life, is a tribute to a late, beloved friend, and what a tribute it is. The songwriting here is impeccable, with the band pulling from diverse genres to create nuanced, surprising ear worms with elements of jazz, world fusion, indie, psych rock, and pop. "Dummy" is a downbeat indie banger that's quite simply one of the best songs of 2023. But really, each track on the album is a keeper. You've got to hear this one for yourself: your life might just change, too.
