Nominated for eight Academy Awards®, including Best Director (Spielberg) and Best Supporting Actress (Dillon), Close Encounters of the Third Kind won for Best Cinematography (Vilmos Zsigmond) with Frank E. Warner taking home a Special Achievement Award for sound effects editing.
