Primal Scream return with the kaleidoscopic, thrilling Come Ahead. The ever versatile legends lean into funk music on this one and it's a joyous, hands in the air affair. On "Love Insurrection," the band creates a dreamy, sensuous mood via swooning strings and groovy woodwinds. "Deep Dark Waters" is an appropriate title for one of the more straight ahead psych rockers on the album, a moody, trippy, melancholy masterpiece. "The Centre Cannot Hold" is a percussive blend of dancefloor funk and downbeat psychedelia. Come Ahead is full of surprises, an album that balances dark and light and creates a beautifully groovy collection that's among Primal Scream's finest.
