COMETA (LP)
Nick Hakim
Amoeba Review
Nick Hakim’s COMETA is one of the most pleasantly visceral, magical albums this season. The tracks feel warm and woozy, hypnotic and hazy, fusing classic indie rock sounds with electronic and hip-hop genre flourishes. The songwriting is intended to replicate the addictively off-kilter sensation of falling in love—emphasis on “falling” with all its disorientation and unpredictability. Much like romance, COMETA is full of twists and turns, including some surprising, extremely excellent guest appearances from the likes of Helado Negro, Arto Lindsay, Alex G., and DJ Dahl. Whether you’re a professed cynic or an unabashed romantic, you’ll find lots to love here.
