Comfort To Me (CD)
Amyl & The Sniffers
Amoeba Review
Amyl & The Sniffers continue to prove that there’s more to the band than riff-heavy, lightning-fast punk – not that there’s anything wrong with that, especially their infectious brand of it. But singer Amy Taylor’s lyrics have an understated cleverness on their debut, and here they swing a wider net, taking on women’s issues with the fiery “Choices” and the sobering “Knifey,” or politics with “Capital” which rages against Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. Then there is the hilarious “Security” where she pleads to be let into the pub because she’s “looking for love” and “not that drunk!” Comfort To Me is a rollickin’ good time with quick shots of welcome introspection and food for thought.
