On Countless Branches, cult folk artist Bill Fay offers up an intriguing panoply of chamber pop recordings, delving into environmental concerns and the passing of time via heartfelt ballads and sparser meditations. There’s a quiet marvel underlying Fay’s delivery, a passion for living that hasn’t subsided since his early 1970s recordings. The compositions are minimal, the lyrics are evocative, and Fay’s voice a warm, close, comforting thing.
