Crispy Crunchy Nothing [Transparent Orange Vinyl] (LP)
Packs
Amoeba Review
At first listen, Packs’ Crispy Crunchy Nothing feels like summer. It’s a deceptively easygoing vibe, however, because all the chill and stasis of winter lies hidden beneath. The melodies are twangy, inviting folk-rock that go down a treat, while tension creeps in as the band’s themes of burnout, confusion, stress, and heartbreak seep in through the lyrics. There’s nothing incongruous about the combination; this is an album about nothingness, about wasting your time, about watching the sun go down on another day. But it’s not all doom and gloom. The camaraderie/energy of the band, the lyrical quest for how to create a life well-lived, and the gentle lull of the guitars make Crispy Crunch Nothing the perfect companion for whatever life transition you’re digging your way out of.
