Daniel (CD)
Real Estate
Amoeba Review
Recorded at Nashville's RCA Studio A with producer Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves), Real Estate's sixth full-length is an easy-going, Americana-tinged album. "Haunted World" feels like the sort of track that's ideal for road trips and hangouts, those rare moments where time doesn't count and the order of the day is to just exist. Yet the lyrics would belie that chilled out melodic approach: "this haunted world is killing me" is the full lyric from which the song derives its name, and it's a tale of unwanted change and eagerly unwelcome stasis. "Water Underground," an irresistible indie rocker with elements of jangle pop and country feels like an anthem for everyone who desperately needs a moment of reflection and calm. Named Daniel solely because the bandmates thought it was funny to call an album a human name, Real Estate's latest is thoughtful, charming, and wistful.
