Deep In View [Cloudy Clear Vinyl] (LP)
Cola
Amoeba Review
Cola is the new post-punk project of erstwhile Ought members Tim Darcy (vocalist/guitarist) and Ben Stidworthy (bassist) with drummer Evan Cartwright. Named after an Alan Watts anthology, their debut album, Deep in View, turns a laser-like focus on our media-saturated, technology-driven society in all its mundanity, inhumanity, and casual strangeness. The songs are impeccably constructed, with bursting-at-the-seams precision guitars and world-weary yet engaging vocals. This might just be the ideal post-punk collection for our times: wry and incisive yet filled with an underlying sense of care and a whole lotta fight.
