Departure Exotica [Palm Green Vinyl] (LP)
Kava Kon
Amoeba Review
From the lush island paradise of Detroit comes Kava Kon, with Departure Exotica, an updated take on the blissfully kitschy '60s genre. Crashing waves, woozy dreamy melodies, and atomic age tropicalia provide the expected escapist atmosphere. Kava Kon adds in some delightfully modern flourishes, though, that keep this album from being just a fun, lounge-y curiousity. Throwback bleep-bloop electronic glitches and crunchy industrial sounds add a bit of grit and intrigue. Departure Exotica is a joy to behold, whether you're stuck in an office or basking somewhere in the South Pacific.
