Devourer [Red/Black Vinyl] (LP)
Cursive
Amoeba Review
Cursive are back with one of the most intriguing, potent albums of their nearly three decades together. The title Devourer should tip you off to the fierce, dangerous, dark undercurrent to these songs. The band makes a bold entrance on metal-meets-punk opener "Botch Job" before slowing down their attack on catchy-as-hell indie pop gem "Up and Away." Many of the songs seamlessly shift between genres, adding surprising flourishes (those triumphant horns on "Bloodbather") to create songs that are layered, nuanced, and ultimately addictive. Devourer is intense, thrilling, and a masterclass on how to write a truly awesome modern indie rock song.
