Echoes Of The South (LP)
Blind Boys Of Alabama
Amoeba Review
The band's eighty year history can be felt on the Blind Boys of Alabama's new album, Echoes of the South. Named after the Birmingham, AL radio program that booked the first incarnation of the group way back in 1944, the album practically drips with Black southern culture, history, and soul. "Work Until My Days Are Done" starts off simple and traditional before crescendoing into a jazzy gospel swing. "Friendship" blends hazy blues and intimate R&B into a joyful and moving ode to, you guessed it, friendship. Echoes of the South is a warm, inviting, glad-to-be-alive album, one of those listens that makes you feel a little closer to heaven.
