EXCELSIOR [White Vinyl] (LP)
Slauson Malone 1
Amoeba Review
Los Angeles multi-disciplinary artist Jasper Marsalis makes his debut as Slauson Malone 1 with the EXCELSIOR album, his first for Warp Records. It's a remarkable collection of songs, the melodies kaleidoscopic and expansive. The compositions are experimental and unbound to any particular genre, but beneath these avant-garde soundscapes lie some strong songwriting bones that give the tracks direction and cohesiveness. (And makes them all that more likely to get stuck in your head and work their song magic on your heart.) A brilliant, smart, beautiful record.
