Exit Wounds (LP)
The Wallflowers
Amoeba Review
The Wallflowers return after a nine-year hiatus with the soulful, road-weary Exit Wounds. Jakob Dylan has assembled some of the best in the biz for this one, with Butch Walker on production duties and Shelby Lynne contributing soaring, affecting female vocals on "Maybe Your Heart’s Not In It No More" and “Darlin’ Hold On.” There's a lived-in bluesy quality to the album, with tinges of haunting Americana slipping in during the more emotive moments. Dylan is at his best here, alternating between plaintive evocations and rollicking, rootsy compositions. Exit Wounds is a welcome return that'll keep listeners hanging on to every word.
