Five Of Cups (CD)
Holy Wave
Amoeba Review
Holy Wave's Five of Cups is a dazzler. The Austin, TX band traffics in hazy throwback psych rock with sun-dappled melodies and haunting vocals. "Bog Song" feels like a lazy summer afternoon: languid, slightly cosmic, and blissed out. With gorgeous guest vocals from Lorelle Meets the Obsolete, "The Darkest Timeline" is dreamy, distant, and magical. "Happier" starts off as a bouncy '60s rocker with tongue-in-cheek lyrics before Estrella del Sol's utterly bewitching vocals kick in. Run, don't walk, to put this quietly stunning, eerily evocative album on your turntable.
