Florist [Deep Purple Vinyl] (LP)
Florist
Amoeba Review
To record Florist's new self-titled album, bandmates Emily Sprague (vocals, guitar), Jonnie Baker (guitar), Rick Spataro (bass), and Felix Walworth (percussion) holed up in a rented house in Hudson Valley, working on music throughout the day, incorporating creation into the usual day-to-day of cooking, chores, and so on. The vibe of those days seems to infuse the album; there's an easy-going, beauty-in-the-everyday feeling to these indie folk tracks that lingers in the mind long after the songs fade out. Layered into the more standard elements of music-making are found sounds, improvisations, and well-utilized moments of silence. Florist is a quiet dream of an album, filled with lovely moments of sunshine and creativity, as well as shadowier moments of stillness and discovery.
