Forever Howlong (CD)
Black Country, New Road
Amoeba Review
Black Country, New Road's Forever Howlong is a dynamic, imaginative record that doesn't sound like anything else out there today. In the course of one song, opener "Besties," the band combines baroque pop, jazz, indie pop, and folk into a head-spinning, infectious ode to best friends (at least one of whom perhaps wish they were more). The track sets the tone for the rest of the album's operatic, exciting, bigger-than-life sound, a fusion of blissful melodies and off-kilter, unexpected lyrics. Produced by James Ford (Fontaines D.C.,Depeche Mode, Blur), it's the first release from the group to feature Tyler Hyde, Georgia Ellery, and May Kershaw splitting vocal duties.
