Forever On My Mind [Black & White Fleck Vinyl] (LP)
Son House
Amoeba Review
Originally recorded in 1964, Forever on My Mind is a previously-unreleased collection of songs from legendary Delta bluesman Son House. The album captures a performance at Wabash College in Indiana, his first solo performance recorded to tape after his “rediscovery” by his soon-to-be manager Dick Waterman. On the album, you’ll find the title track in its first time on record, plus unheard versions of “Preachin’ Blues” and “Death Letter.” The music is raw, powerful, and urgent, as pure a distillation of the blues as you’re likely to get—it’s easy to see why Son House has inspired generations of dedicated fans. This is the real deal blues in all its stripped down, gritty glory.
