fossora (CD)
Björk
Amoeba Review
Every Bjork album feels like an evolutionary epiphany and Fossora is no different. The innovation fans have come to expect from the Icelandic icon keeps listeners on their toes, as Bjork uses the omnipresent, sometimes psychedelic mushroom as a sort of unifying theme for the explorations of loss, survival, and environmental ecology present within these songs. American singer Serpentwithfeet, Indonesian electronic artists Gabber Modus Operandi, bass clarinet group Murmuri, and even Bjork’s children Sindri and Ísadóra appear on the album, adding to the twists and turns of both the lyrical narrative and the sound. Haunted and transcendent, euphoric and anguished, this is an album that nods to the duality of life, in all its brilliance and bereavement.
