Freakout / Release (CD)
Hot Chip
Amoeba Review
It’s time to let your inner dance floor freak out. Hot Chip’s Freakout/Release brings some of indie dance’s finest purveyors of sound into the band’s circle, with Soulwax co-producing, Lou Hayer (ex-New Young Pony Club) contributing to “Hard to Be Funky,” and Cadence Weapon on “The Evil That Men Do.” The vibe is easy-going good times throughout the album, the mood always upbeat, although the party proceedings are tinged by a bit of the band’s usual wistfulness. On the title track, Hot Chip lets it all out: this is your soundtrack to releasing all your built-up tension beneath the ever-spinning disco ball. Fierce, fabulous, and a whole lotta fun.
