Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (CD)
Sarah McLachlan

Sarah McLachlan’s 1996 album Fumbling Towards Ecstasy further develops her talent as a contemporary alternative folk rock singer-songwriter. Ethereal vocals grip the often-jarring narratives that delve into topics that “good girls” wouldn’t talk about. As such, McLachlan’s relevance as an adult contemporary artist is odd; songs like the hit “Possession” verge into dangerously sensual territory and is in stark contrast to what should be couth in PC work environments. It’s the power of her pipes. The title track melds world music beats through meandering “quiet storm” sentimentality, which is once again a tailored setting to support McLachlan’s full vocal range.
