Gentle Confrontation (CD)
Loraine James
Amoeba Review
North London producer Loraine James has created a thing of rare beauty with Gentle Confrontation. Inspired by the music she loved as a teen (namely DNTEL, Lusine, Telefon Tel Aviv, and some math rock), these tracks are lushly textured and emotionally alive. "2003" finds James grappling with the aftermath of her father's death when she was a child: it's an intimate and raw vocal track with an echoing, shimmering melody. "I DM U" is a tightrope walk between tension and loveliness, with skittering beats and woozy, gorgeous washes of sound. Gentle Confrontation is a multilayered work that gets richer and more rewarding with each listen.
