Get Fixed (LP)
Cursive
Amoeba Review
After a brief lull earlier in the decade, Cursive have been red hot lately. Following 2018’s return-to-form-of-sorts, Vitriola, the group continue to mine the richly ornamented post-hardcore that defined their classic period with albums such as The Ugly Organ. Featuring singles like “Stranded Satellite,” which ventures from frenzied, dissonant skronk rock to an impassioned Arcade Fire-worthy baroque buildup in the span of a mere three minutes, Get Fixed has ambition to spare. It also has the backing cast to do so, with numerous horns and strings adorning these tracks alongside cellist Megan Siebe and keyboardist Ted Steven’s lush arrangements. Drum machines and production wizardry aid the group in achieving the panoramic scope that Get Fixed strives for. After a two-decade long career, it would be easy for beloved vets like Cursive to simply phone it in and collect a paycheck, but Get Fixed proves they haven’t tempered their aspirations in the slightest.
