Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's Gift Songs lives up to its name. The title comes from the Shaker concept of "gift drawings" passed from God to the artist, as well as Cantu-Ledesma's belief that music is a gift that comes to us through certain conditions. These exquisite experimental-ambient compositions do feel channeled from another realm; each track is enveloping and hypnotic, providing a ripe atmosphere for imagination or contemplation. Crafted with guitar, organ, modular synthesizer, and acoustic instrumentation, the sublime Gift Songs is a record filled with grace.
