Going Steady (LP)
North Americans
Amoeba Review
Patrick McDermott’s instrumental project North Americans follows up 2020’s Roped In with a reissue of the acclaimed album Going Steady, released in a limited quantity in 2018. On the latter, McDermott first branched out from his earlier droning digital sounds to American primitive guitar compositions, collaborating with Julianna Barwick, Dylan Baldi (Cloud Nothings), Meg Duffy (Hand Habits) and Hayden Pedigo. With tracks like “Bleeding Heart Tetra” venturing gently into the psychedelic, the album is atmospheric and meditative, conjuring endless images in the listener’s mind.
